But What if I'm Brilliant???

This is what I ask Hubby when I need time to write. When you both work, have two young children and a dog, it's hard to find personal time for marriage, much less personal time for one's self. Sometimes ... (and don't tell Mr. Hrezo this) but sometimes I have to finagle, coerce, stretch the limits a little ...

All so I can have time to write. Hey, we all make sacrifices and we're all busy. Often times it's our dedication that cultivates success rather than sheer talent. At times, I tell Hubby, "But, honey, what if I'm brilliant?? What if there's an amazing story inside me and it never gets out because we didn't make time for it??"

Yeah, I know. I do what I can. But there could be truth to those words, and sometimes life gets in the way too often. We have to want it bad enough to make it happen. But you know what? When I woke up this morning to take the dog out, I stepped into our back sun room and lo and behold! Hubby had surprised me with a brand new work area! A wrap-around desk so I can swivel back and forth between laptops and room in the middle for pen and paper and sticky notes and coffee, etc. What a guy! He worked all night putting it together while I was sleeping.

Of course, now I have to show it off .... Feast your eyes:

There's Little PK watching her Smories.

So yeah, view of the woods and plenty of room to stretch out. For Christmas Hubby surprised me with a new leather office chair. Do I have a great guy or what?? Notice the bag of Ghiradelli dark chocolates behind Little PK's head .... Uh-huh. A man that knows I need chocolate is man after my own heart.

So this is where I work. Jen at Unedited has pics posted today of where she works. And for my fellow parents, if you're not familiar with Smories, it's a wonderful kid website. Little PK loves it. It's just videos of different children reading stories. Kids can click around to the different children, listen and learn.

On a side note, I just wanted to give props to Dezz over at HOLLYWOOD SPY. He designed my title banner for my blog and I LOVE it. Don't know Hollywood Spy? Check it out! It's a lot of fun and you can get your lowdown on the latest entertainment. If I wanna know what latest movie is coming out, I just check out Hollywood Spy. He is awesome!

A HUGE welcome to new friends and fellow crusaders! So glad you're here. I don't have any questions for you today, but if there's anything you'd like to know about me, please ask. I'll try to answer everything in my next post. If you don't have any questions, tell me where YOU do your writing ....

What an awesome writing den, and an even better guy! Where would we be without spouses who occasionally give in to our writerly whims? Your view makes me want to write, and it's just a picture! :0)

Oh WOW! You have a keeper there. I would love to have a work space like that. For now, I'm at the kitchen table which begs for interruption. The view of the woods would be totally inspirational for me. I used to have that myself, but then the neighborhood moved in out back and cleared my little haven away. Not bitter. It's good your hubby understands. Mine has been extremely slow but I think he's getting it. They can accuse you of following a pipe dream but if you're holding a pipe (no smoking) in your mouth the next time they catch you on the computer, it lightens the subject a bit. :)

After losing my old writing space, Tim made me a new one during our last Halloween Staycation. I love it and I love him for it. It's great to have guys like these.

As for making time to write. It's a job, just like any and needs done. Good luck and Happy Writing.

What a sweet surprise! I loved the way he did that all while you were sleeping. I just love the trees as your view. Now write, girl!

NICE!

Your hubs is too sweet.

Your space is wonderful and he VIEW!

I mostly write in the living room on my couch. I have a view of a beautiful park on one side of windows and the park, pond, and a cityscape outside the adjacent windows.

I don't have a desk, but I do have his cool laptop table that's like a breakfast table. It tilts to the correct angle and you place it over your lap. Super comfy to write. And if you want you can even lay down and write.

Enjoy your new space...

Michael

What a great guy you have there. Very nice. I love the windows looking out into the trees--inspirational for sure.

I showed this post to my own husband saying, "Look what this writer's husband did for her. Isn't that nice?"

He nodded. "I hate being compared to awesome guys. Just accept the fact I'm average." :)

What a fantastic husband you have. And what a lovely view to look out on as you write. I certainly do envy you. And a pretty daughter to boot. You are a lucky woman. May your muse soar to new heights in that writing area. Roland

This makes me glad I don't have a wife or kids. Or a pet. No, actually it just makes me kind of sad.

You guys make me wish I was doing more with my 'writing space', which is basically just a wooden desk lacking in the inspiration factor! It works but it could be so much more fun-- I sense a plan forming.

That's awesome, congrats on the new work area. :) I'm terrible with surprises and being romantic, this shows me it isn't that hard though. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

Love your new banner! And what a great guy your hubby is!! The desk and chair are great, but chocolates too?! Your workspace looks great, and little PK is a darling!

That is really fantastic PK! What a guy! I too often find it difficult to ask for time away from family...especially since I want it for writing, for scrapbooking, for photography, for blogging-life is a balancing act for certain!

Wow, that is too awesome! I'm jealous of your view! ;) . . . and the swivel chair! Being a youngster, I write in my room. I've got my own $20 butterfly chairs from Target. So technically, I sit in whichever lazy position I want and write. :D

Awesome space--make sure you share that Ghiradelli's with the hubby. He deserves it!
I am currently writing at a Borders coffee shop. At home there isn't really a designated writing nook, though I've tried to write in our sort-of-started-to-renovate basement. But it's cold (in winter), and has a high creepy factor to it, so it only works well when I'm writing that kind of story/chapter. We call it our serial-killer basement. Oh yeah, it's classy...

Wow, what a husband. Great room to work too. And the chocolates!? No excuses for not turning out masterpieces now :)

Great work space! I love the window behind your computer--it must be nice to be able to look outside!

I noticed the banner when I came over; wow!

Wow, what a great husband! Thanks for sharing your pics. Looks like a lovely place to work!

As for me, I write on my living room couch with a laptop desk on my lap and a big cup of coffee at my side. A real desk would be better, but this works!

It's things like this that make a relationship stronger. Lucky girl :)

It is a great space and I am sure you will produce brilliant work. Little Miss PK is a cutie.

I hope I don't get barbarded by your crusaders, but I write wherever and whenever I wish. Retirement has some bennies ... though I strongly advise against waiting that long to do your own thing people.

What a great hubby! That's an awesome view and desk to work at. At work, I do my writing at a less than inspiring cubicle type area... but luckily there's lots of foliage around it and great people to chat with. At home, my office has a great bay window where the sun always shines in.

I definately had an "awww" moment right there. That is so incredibly sweet. Man, I want to find someone who stays up all night setting up surprise work desks for me and making sure I have chocolate. Definately a keeper. (As is your daughter. She's adorable!)

Hey PK, I love the new design! What an awesome hubby you've got there! :)

Love it! Surely you ARE brilliant! And I know how hard it is with small kids. Writing took over the time I had read with my kids as each got old enough that they read on their own (middle school)--prior to that, I would have been lucky to get half hour a day.

Raquel Byrnes said...

Give that man some brownie points. And, of course you're brilliant!

Your hubby is awesome. Not only for the fabulous writing area, but for supplying chocolate. And the leather chair. What a guy.

(I have one of those keepers too. He's very supportive of my writing.)

You must be in seventh heaven with that new writing area. I love the wrap-around layout, and your view is enviable!! Talk about an inspirational setting. Now all you need is Time.

P.S. Your blog header is very cool! The title looks like styrofoam. I love that!

There is no "What if" my love - you ARE brilliant...just sayin'. And I love your space that Nate set up for you...so jealous that you can be in front of the window. Missing you! xoxo.

wow! I LOVE the new banner Dez designed, and I LOVE your view! I also need a good chair. Sigh... good thing we're moving. I have lots on my "wish" list.

And you *are* brilliant, dahling~ ;p
