Weekly Spotlight ... Could Be You!

Is it Wednesday again already?? Whoa, I can't keep up. Anybody got one of those time turners I can borrow? Mine is on the fritz again, and I just can't seem to keep up with all ten thousand things on my list.  :S

Anyway, let's talk weekly spotlight. Welcome to my new followers and fellow crusaders! Glad to have you here and looking forward to becoming friends. Just a note, make sure your blog is linked to your Blogger profile so we can follow you back. And check out all the links on my sidebar to the right for some great things going on.

Speaking of links, that brings me to my weekly spotlight. Mid week I shine the spotlight on a blog I follow and tell you why I follow them. This week, the Blogger Oscar goes to ....

*drumroll*

*bated breath*

SUMMER ROSS   of   MY INNER FAIRY

I love anything that has to do with fairies, so of course, I just lurve Summer's blog and how fairy-licious it is. But one of the unique and fabulous perks to her blog is the Current Blogfest link at the top. She keeps track of blogfests so you don't have to.  Want to know what's going on in the blogosphere, but been out of the loop for a few days? Check Summer's blog and see what you can sign up for.

Aside from her informative blog, she's fun, cute, and always good for a comment. If you're not following her already, hop on over and give her a shout.

Before you go, though, quick question... how do you feel about return comments from bloggers you comment on? What I mean, is if you leave a comment on my blog, do you come back to check for my response? I'm taking an unofficial poll, just out of curiosity. My theory is that, although I'd love to respond to each of you individually, unless you ask me a direct question, I don't take the time to respond to each comment. I most definitely read ALL of them and appreciate every single person who takes time to comment. However, I don't go back and check blogs I comment on unless I make a direct statement or question. Therefore, I don't do it on my own blog either. I know it's good blogging etiquette, but how many of you really return to blogs after just a regular comment?

I love Summer's blog as well.
I check back on comments if I ask a question or if it's a conversational/controversial blog post.

Congrats on the award, Summer.
In answer to your question I do try to return to check replies, though recently I have been feeling off-colour a lot and so have spent less time blogging and am now trying to catch up. :O)

Yay, Summer. I already follow her blog. I love the fairies on it.

I visit so many blogs, it's impossible for me to revisit a particular post. I used to subscribe to email to see what the writer wrote, but that's just not feasible anymore. I get too much in my inbox as it is.

It depends, if I feel I have left a thought provoking comment (doesn't happen often I'm afraid) I come back to see if it generated any interesting responses. I realize it's difficult to respond to everyone especially when you get a lot of comments. :)

Great spotlight. Maybe I need to stop over there.

Summer and I found each other a while ago, and she's definitely a bright spot in the blogosphere!

As far as comments go...I usually don't check back to see if you've responded to a comment I've left, but I really like it when the bloggers I follow email me a personal response. I try to do that on my own blog. I feel it develops more of a connection between us. Just my 2 cents worth. :)

Summer runs a heck of a blog!

As for blog comments, you know I have an opinion! ;) (Keep in mind that these opinions only hold water for blogs with less than a 1,000 followers--once you've hit that mark, you're big time and can probably do what you want).

I don't think it's realistic to expect a blogger to respond to every comment individually ALL of the time. However, I do think it's important for bloggers to recognize/pay respect to a frequent blog commenter. Also, I think you should do your best to recognize the new guys and gals so they get that initial feeling of belonging.

I've quit following blogs with smaller followings that never seemed to reciprocate my involvement in their blogging. I'll qualify that by saying in every instance it wasn't necessarily because they never responded back to my comments, but because they didn't follow my blog in return.

I think followers should get a TON of slack. I"ll use PK and I as an example ... I've had an electronic relationship with PK since I started blogging, and have been following her blog since her followers numbered in the teens. She knows (I think!) that I keep up with her blog, and I know (I think!) that she keeps up with mine. Consequently, if she leaves a comment and I'm pressed for time I may not get right back to it, and I know that if she posts a few things that I don't respond to she won't think I've gotten all ePissed and gone AWOL from her blog.

We have a relationship, and I think all bloggers can build that with their followers over time.

Good spotlight. How can you not love a woman who knows she's a fairy?

I do it both ways. I love to see if someone reacted to a particular type of answer. Mostly, it's not a major thing. I only have a bit in the morning and then again at night to devote to "blogging."

However, I love to answer or comment on certain comments left for me on my daily posts.

I'll also add that I've become a staunch supporter of a few authors simply because they've popped over to leave a comment on my blog after I'd left several on their blogs. In some cases, they've even followed my blog, and these people have quadruple digit followings, so I know their time is precious.

My point: I'll buy any book they put out because I feel connected to them now. I think if your an author (aspiring or otherwise) that's a majority of the reason why you blog in the first place. To build a readership. So it's definitely worth your time as a blogger to let the commenter know you're listening.

Thank you Fairy much PK for the spot light! I'm tickled that you noticed me!

I don't usually check back unless I Know the blog author replies to every post, or if I have a question.

Pk Hrezo said...

Well how can I not pop back in and respond here. :) I'm with the same mentality as you mentioned, EJ. If I have an ongoing Blogging relationship with my commenters, which I feel like I do, then I don't feel it's necessary to visually acknowledge each comment, because I'm gonna visit their blog anyway and comment. I feel that's how most of us bloggers work... we comment on each others' blogs maybe not every day, but we know we can count on each other for support.

That's a big difference. And YES! The popular bloggers who take time to visit my blog and comment, even follow.... they are full on rock stars and have my support forever.

Great discussion here. Thanks to all of you for chiming in. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being rude by not responding to each comment. :)

Summer Ross is awesome!!

And I totally don't think you have to respond to each comment. WHen someone comments on my blog I just make sure that I've visited theirs that day too.

Awesome spotlight this week!!!
I JUST asked this question Monday too! I don't come back. Not because I don't want to or anything, but I usually forget, by the time I hit all the blogs, which ones I needed to check!

Quinn said...

Summer's blog is great.

About the comments, I don't come back and check unless I ask a question.

Jules said...

Hurray for Ms. Fairy! But to answer your question, no I do not go back unless I ask a specific question either. I love the bloggers whom allow me to reply via email.

Hey I'm handing something out today, check it out. :)

Yay Summer.

I don't tend to go back either, but I may if I ask a question. I reply to comments on my blog via email. I do feel sad when there is no email address linked to a blogger comment though.

Kindros said...

I actually don't usually check back to see if someone responded. In return don't really comment on my comments, I want to start a weekly post where I comment on comments I receive during the week. Just an idea.

I'll have to check out that blog, thanks for the recommendation. :)

Thanks for the link! I don't check back on comments because I visit a lot of blogs. As a new blogger, I would rather that people responded by clicking over to my blog and saying hello there. I like it when people respond to comments through email, and I do that when I have time. It makes me feel connected and it's fun :)

Summer's a cool person!
If I've asked a question, I go back for an answer, but I do good to visit as many blogs as I do just once. Now when I host someone, often people will come back for that person's replies in the comments section.
For me, I respond to more than half of my comments on my own post, because some people do check back. It's also 'conversation' and more than one person has informed me that's why they like my blog. So, I keep doing it!

Pk Hrezo said...

Good to know, You guys. That prolly is a very good reason yours is so popular, Alex.
I agree with Carrie. I'd prefer that blogger hop over and comment on mine and vice versa as opposed to responding to each comment.

Thanks for the discussion here. It helps to know how everyone feels.

I usually check the box that notifies me by email if additional comments are made, but I'll be interested to see your findings because I don't think that's the most efficient way.

I generally click that "subscribe by email" button to see if the blogger will respond to my comment, or if I'm just interested in the conversation. That way, I can catch a response, if it comes. But I don't necessarily EXPECT a response. We all have only so much time. I engage as much as I can, then I need to scurry back to my writing. :)

I love Summer's blog! :)

I check back if I asked a specific question (and if I remember I asked!) but usually I don't check. I do make sure to reply to all the comments on my blog in the thread, though, just in case someone does come back.

Kathryn said...

I've thought of that too, and unless I remember to check that person's blog to see if they've answered my question, I don't. I just plum forget. I try to answer most peoples' questions or respond to their comments on my blog, but if I'm running low on time, or I approve a bunch and forget to go back to my blog to respond, I don't. But since my comment setting needs my moderation in order to be published, I absolutely read every comment.

M Pax said...

If I ask a question, I'd come back to check if you answered, but otherwise I won't check.

Congrats to Summer and her fairies blog! I've visited it often.

As to the comments, I tick the small subscribe by email box and read everyone's comment in my email. If anyone asks a specific question then I can answer by clicking on post a reply in my email.

Visiting you from Rachael's Crusader post. I'm a new follower! And ah yes, Summer at My Inner Fairy, found her once upon a time, but then I forgot - thanks for the reminder!

As to your question, no I don't go back and check blogs where I've left a comment, unless I've asked a specific question, and even then I sometimes forget, and then get pleasantly surprised when I get an email (I think it's very helpful to link your email to your profile so bloggers can email you directly about your comment). So many times I've gotten a great comment and tried to reply directly, but it goes to some abyss because I forgot to double-check before hitting send!

Thanks y'all! It's so great to know what others prefer.

I don't normally return to the blog to read a follow up post. When I do mine, most of the time I respond to each individual commenter. I know that everyone like to read through the comments, but I feel that it is too time consuming for readers to have to come back to see if I had something to say as a response. I do occasionally post responses to all my comments but not often.
