My Summer

Michael di Gesu over at In Time is hosting a blogfest with the theme, "What I did over the summer." And even though my summer was exciting and stressful in a different kind of way, I thought I'd join along.

I wish I had some fun pics to share with you, but my summer has been spent packing, moving and unpacking. Not once, but twice. Oi.

I had hoped to be doing more of this:

But you know how it goes, once we moved into our new home, it's been work, work, work. Seriously, we put our home up for sale on June 30th. It sold July 2. We had thirty days to pack up EVERYTHING. So in between kids home for summer and packing and moving, the summer was a blur.

In between packing, we had to house shop. That was the fun part. But with so many foreclosures and short sales, there was a lot of negativity in the real estate market. We'd visit homes with punch marks all over the walls or stripped clean of everything in the kitchen, including cabinetry. It was really sad.

We saw many homes that didn't interest us at all and we knew it as soon as we walked in. Then we saw a few homes we really liked but couldn't get a bid in fast enough. And then, by chance, a home in our same neighborhood (which we love) popped up for sale. The woman had passed away and after visiting it, and it seemed a perfect fit.

The rest is history, although somewhat stressful, but we're in our new home and still unpacking, along with some renovations. We just painted my bedroom:

Totally teal on the bottom and sea spray on the top. Hard to tell from this pic, but the colors are gorgeous. SO we'll be making our way around the house with redoing all the walls. Meanwhile, the kiddies are loving the pool and spend all most everyday after school swimming. I've always wanted my own swimming pool and I'm so thrilled to finally have one.

So that was my summer....

How about you? How was yours?

Sorry your summer was so hectic and you didn't have time to really enjoy it. We have to move later this year and need to buy a home. Sadly, we will face the same horrendous experience you did.

I love the colors. I can see them in the pics just fine. Glad it worked out.

Your summer sounds a lot like mine! There's nothing like the stress (and excitement) of a move, is there? Glad you're getting settled and love the color of your room!

Now's the fun bit - decorating!! Yay for your pool!! Take care

Moving is both discouraging and exciting at the same time. I've moved many times in my life, and always I had mixed emotions: I wanted to move and I didn't want to move. That's just the way it's been for me.

Yay for new house! My summer felt short-- stupid no-sun in the UK. I did snatch some sun in France, though, and read a lot while it rained over here, so it wasn't all bad.

We need to buy a new house because our starter house is too small for our growing family of three kids. But I'm not looking forward to moving, so I've been pretending we don't need to move. Plus a larger house means I need to clean more, and I suck at that as it is. Surprise, surprise, my writing always seems to come first. ;)

Glad to see you're settling into your new digs. Its a lot of work, but things will return to normality. And lounging around the pool is a great way to spend the summer!

I think you set a record for the fastest house sale!

I love it when you find that "Just Right" home. So glad you found yours. And I love the colors!! Very soothing.

Stephanie said...

Yeah....not fun. Hoping we never move again...unless, of course, we come into a huge pile of money and can just hire someone to do all the moving for us. But congrats on the new digs!! Have fun making it your own!

The paint looks gorgeous!..even though you said the colors didn't translate well. So happy for you guys! Even though it was stressful in the process, looks like the payoff was well worth it :D

ps you're awesome!

I know it's hectic to begin with but I love shopping for homes and moving and decorating and hopping in a pool. I did't do any of that during my Summer. I actually relaxed. :)

Crazy summer but with a happy ending. It's funny how the right place manages to find you in the end. That's totally sad about so many houses getting stripped down like that. But it's awesome you're now adding loving (and pretty!) touches to your home.

I have always hated moving- but I'm really glad it all worked out for you.

It sounds like you had a really busy summer--and moving twice has got to be rough.

I love the colors in the pic!

Yes, but think of how relaxing next summer will seem!

My bedroom is sage green on the bottom with an avocado green top border (and ceiling). I love those colors - very tranquil.

We haven't moved in 20 years, and I hope its another 20 years until we even consider it. I've had my fill! Not fun!!

Enjoy your new home...and I hope you're there for your own 20 years!! :)

That pool is looking pretty good right now :)

I moved over the summer too - took us only 2 days to pack and move, but I've been here three weeks and I'm storing more boxes than I'm unpacking.

Good luck in your new home.

You need a vacation. May I suggest Bermuda. Just got back myself. So perty:) But I'm sure you'd rather just sun bathe in your own pool at this point. Looks like the wee ones have acclimated well. Congrats on the new house.

Sounds like a busy stressful summer, but one that was well worth it.

I don't envy you the moving. I HATE moving, but I think everyone should have to experience it at least once in their lifetime (it builds character, right?).

It's a lot of work, so true - but there's something I like about starting over! Mostly getting rid of clutter!

And Sawyer is TOTALLY hot. Is this the first time you're watching LOST?

Pk Hrezo said...

I agree, Sophia.... and yes this is the first time I'm watching Lost. We're way behind the times but I knew I wanted to wait for the show on DVD so I wouldn't have to wait to have those cliffhangers answered. ;)
