X for X-Men

So way back when I was in my early 20s and waiting tables in a Mexican restaurant, I had this friend Mike. Mike was a lot of fun to work with and we were always joking around, and it was strictly platonic (since he batted for the other team) so there was no fraternizing going on.

Anyway, I mention Mike because he introduced me to the X-Men comics. This was way before the films came out and I hadn't heard of X-Men at all. Well, Mike knew everything about the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, and he enlightened me. We would hang out in  the side stations looking at comics and I was getting the low down on all of them--while we were supposed to be waiting tables, mind you. LOL... customers can wait. ;)

So in honor of my old friend Mike, and the letter X, I give you my fave character from the X-Men:

STORM! yep, she's just way cool. If I could conjure up some powers, I think having the weather at my beckon call would be pretty darn awesome. Descended from a long line of African witch-priestesses with white hair and blue eyes, Storm was originally born in Harlem, NY as Ororo. She was orphaned after moving to Cairo when a plane hit her home and killed her parents. She grew up on the streets and lived as a thief before Professor X (aka Charles Xavier found her.) Strong and serene, Storm learns to control her ability to manipulate the weather, and because there is a negative to every positive, if she doesn't control it just the right way, she can throw off the natural balance of the earth.

She can control the temperature of the environment, all forms of rain, humidity and moisture, lightning and other electromagnetic phenomona. She can also conjure up tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes, even mist

As far as super powers go, I'm imagining that by controlling the weather, you'd feel pretty goddess-like.

How about you? Who's your fave from X-Men? Please share....

Storm's a terrific character! Particularly when she's written well.

For me, some of my favourite X-Men would have to be Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Gambit. There are others in a current running title, X-Factor, which is really the best comic being written today (Peter David is a god among comics writers), a sort of detective noir style of comics, with characters who happen to be mutants. They're very, very good characters, particularly the lead of the ensemble, James Madrox, who can make duplicates of himself. He's his own army.

As to ones I don't like... well, Cyclops is a prat who's become so morally compromised in the last few years that he has to die... and Wolverine is an overexposed Drunken Hobbit.

Storm sounds very cool. I've never read the xmen comics just seen the movies and I'm sure there's a huge difference.

My house is flooded with comics. The hubby is a big collector. I would have to say mine is Pheonix.

I don't really have a fave, as I've never actually read the comics or seen them or anything. The movies I can talk about, but I know that that's just not old skool! hehe

I don't have a favorite X person. I've never really been an X-men fan. But your description of Storm makes me think I'd really like her.

Storm was always in my top list of favorites but my all-time favorite would have to be Rogue (although Jean Grey as Phoenix is a near tie). There was just something so tragic about not being able to touch or be touched that made me relate to Rogue on a level I didn't connect with any of the other characters on.

I've seen the movies but not read the comics, so I don't feel qualified to vote on favs... but reading other comments makes me think I should buy a comic book and check them out...

I'm kooky for the X-Men. Wolverine is my favorite for purely swoonworthy reasons. Okay, I lied, Charles Xavier for his intellect and compassion is my real favorite.

They do a good job at making her real with her horrible fear of enclosed spaces and her limitations if she uses her power too much.

Storm is a pretty cool fighter. I love the X-Men, so of course, I think this is a great job.
