More villains!
In honor of the hearty letter H, I give you ...

Humperdinck
From The Princess Bride, the cold and calculating prince of Florin, who tries to marry the lovely Buttercup, all so he can murder her and declare war on Guilder. He's an excellent example of how a villain need not be gruesome or appear maniacal. Humperdinck is attractive, intelligent, and highly skilled in tracking animals. His twisted motives make him villainous, and lucky for Buttercup, the Dread Pirate Roberts proves to be Humperdinck's worthy enemy.
(Do you not just adore this story and movie??)

Mr. Harvey
From The Lovely Bones, this villain is the quiet neighbor down the street. Introverted, homely, polite, but oh so dangerous. That's what makes him so terrifying. Raping and murdering children is unforgivable, and readers and movie goers instantly hate this character, but there is an element of sympathy when we learn about Mr. Harvey's troubled childhood--having a violent father and living in poverty, young Harvey and his mother were forced to steal for food, and only when little Harvey completed such tasks, could he earn his mother's love. The author, Alice Sebold, didn't just make him evil, she gave him a reason for it, and in crafting well-told stories, that is an absolute must.

Hilly Holbrook
From The Help, Hilly is the wolf in sheep's clothing, or in this case, the villain in fine ladies' clothing. A southern socialite, and at one time, best friend of the main character, Skeeter, Hilly's got all kinds of ulterior motives and she doesn't care who she hurts in order to get her way. Matter of fact, she kind of gets off on hurting others. We do get a glimpse into her humanity though, as the author, Kathryn Stockett, sets her up nicely as a loving mother to contrast her villainy. Controlling and full of threats, this well dressed and wealthy bully is one of those chicks you love to hate. Are there really people like her in the world?? Makes you wonder. If so, I've no qualms about practicing my upper cut on their chin. ;)
Thanks so much for stopping by! Any thoughts on Humperdinck, Harvey, or Hilly? Another H villain you'd like to share? See you back here for I Day!

I must say I am enjoying your theme, today's was excellent. Looking forward to your "I" post.
Yvonne.
The Princess Bride rocks, both the book and the movie.
Now all I can hear is "Humperdinck, Humperdinck, Humperdinck!"
"She is alive, or was an hour ago. If she is otherwise when I find her I shall be very put out." Humperdinck had some great lines in that movie. (:
As much as I love Humperdinck, I think I love that you included Hilly Holbrook best. Sometimes it's hard to see who is the "villian" in a book like THE HELP, but she was a stupendous one. And yet, one you could sort of hope would one day come around on her views.
Great examples. I still need to read "The Help"...how sad am I?
Humperdink, Humperdink, Humperdink!
I haven't seen The Lovely Bones movie, but I did read the book, and you're very right about Mr. Harvey.
Humperdink was a great villain. I love when he's invited to watch Westley's torture but says, "Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped."
I couldn't stand Hilly. Quite enjoyed her comeuppance though!
I've never read the book, but The Lovely Bones was an eerie movie. Tucci did a great job in it, as well.

I thought the book and movie of The Lovely Bones was pretty good, and Stanley Tucci captured the character perfectly. So creepy!
I loved Humperdinck, but then I loved all of the Princess Bride characters.
The Princess Bride is such a great movie - Humperdinck is brilliant. Then Chris Sarandon makes a fantastic baddie, I loved him in Fright Night.
I have to admit to not being able to get through The Lovely Bones, but The Help is superb.
Great choice of villains.
Tasha's Thinkings
Humperdinck is such a great, entertaining villain. Fantastic choice! I do adore the story and movie. One of my all time favorites.
I've heard SO MUCH about The Princess Bride that I'll have to either read the book or watch the movie! I'm more inclined towards the book, though the movie will be a quicker option!
And the only one I know is Hilly!
I never read or watched "The Lovely Bones." I don't like that kind of content.
I wouldn't have thought of Hilly. Good choice.
I so love The Princess Bride! Just the picture of Humperdinck makes me want to watch again. :)
Greetings! Τhis іs my first comment herе so I just wanted to give a

Humperdinck and Hilly, great choices. I <3<3<3 The Princess Bride.
Great choices! who doesn't love a good villain!
Great post! How about Hannibal Lector?
*shivers*
Cheers!
Yay for The Princess Bride! Boo to Humperdinck, and a bigger hiss to Harvey. I've never seen The Help, but look at the evil face!
Humperdinck is too much fun. The other too are unknown to me.
"I knew you were bluffing! I knew he was.... bluffing."
One of the best. Not one false step in that movie.
I've read all of these books, but only seen two of the movies. (Haven't seen The Lovely Bones.) The Princess Bride is one of my absolute favorites!
One of my speech girls is doing a cutting from The Lovely Bones. She got a critique last week asking, "why is Mr. Harvey so creepy?" Um. . .Because he is. ;)
Excellent H's!
Humperdinck! Humperdinck! Humperdinck!
Heather
A friend of mine said that Humperdinck was the coolest character in the movie. Are you kidding?
Oh my goodness, your ongoing villains theme makes for fascinating reading.
And that Englebert Humperdinck, has a lot to answer for.
Gary :)
Princess Bride gets better with time, and Humperdinck grows all the more sinister in his pretty-boy-ness. Good choices.
Those are great choices. Those are great villains! :)
Every time I watch Princess Bride I love it more. And oh man I hated Hilly. I cheered (and gagged a little) when she got what she deserved.
KC @ The Occasional Adventures of a Hermit & Oh Frog It
Loved all of your H choices, Humperdinck in particular. Chris Sarandon was incredible. Mr. Harvey was the one time Stanley Tucci truly disturbed me onscreen.
Whoa all good H words!! And believe it or not, I've seen them all!
Princess Bride is one of the few films I have on DVD. Great choice to include in your post. Good luck in the A-Z, hope you make it through ;)
Hilly is a beast--and not in the current, cool kid vernacular, "She's beast!" positive way, either. :)
Henry VIII was pretty bad too!
