The Write Path --- Calling All Writers!!

Happy Wednesday! Are you working hard, or hardly working? I kinda wish I was in the latter category, but then what would I do with myself??

I want to invite you to a very special project, so check this out!

A few months ago I had an idea to collaborate a Dear New Writer project, but I've been so buried in projects, I hadn't been able to get it started. Then the other day the fabulous and talented, Carrie Butler, announced a project called The Write Path, and it was exactly the same idea.

I've been so excited about this! Carrie has graciously brought me on board to help get this amazing project underway.

And here's where you come in ...

Think back to when you first started writing--how dreamy-eyed and hopeful you were! How the magic seemed to pour from your fingers to the keyboard, and brilliance emanated from every fiber of your being.

And then think about that first rejection that sucked the oxygen from your lungs. Or that first critique that sucker punched you where it counts.

Um, yeah. Maybe we weren't as genius as we thought. Well, what if you could write your new-writer-self a letter with advice and encouragement, and send it back in time? That's what we want you to do.

The eventual result will be a collaborative eBook published for customer download. The eBook will be free, as a tool of encouragement for new writers, and any writer for that matter. We'd really love to have you blog your entry as well, but it's not required if you don't blog or aren't comfortable with that.

Your entry in the eBook will include your name and links, so you'll officially be published and can add it to your resume. Please note, ANY writer can participate. Don't worry about what stage you're at. We are a vast community of different stages in our writing, and all of us with different strengths and weaknesses to share.

We hope you'll take advantage of this community effort! There are a few guidelines to stay consistent, so please read the following:

Write a letter/note to yourself when you first started writing toward publication. Keep it under 800 words, including as many (or as few) of these elements as you like:

   - A lesson you learned the hard way
   - Something you didn’t expect about the industry (positive/negative)
   - A writing-related resource you could never do without now
   - One thing you’d change about your journey
   - One thing you’re glad you did
   - Your number one tip for pursuing publication
   - Anything else you feel is worth passing on

   - The name you wish to be credited as
   - The title (if any) you wish to follow your name, i.e. author of the series
   - One major link where people can find you, i.e. website, blog, Twitter, etc.

   - Whether or not you give permission to use your entry in the e-book compilation. Don’t feel bad if you don’t want in. We’d still love to read what you have to say!

NOTE: Entries won't be edited, other than to proofread for misspellings or duplicate words. Try to have it pub-ready when you post it.

Anticipated FAQs

Q: Do I have to be published in order to participate?
A: It may be easier to answer the questions if you’ve been published (either independently or traditionally), but it’s certainly not a requirement. We’re just looking for friends with experience navigating the authorial waters. You do not have to be published.

Q: Do I need a blog to participate?
A: No, you do not need a blog to participate. Feel free to e-mail me your letter directly or post it via a social media like Facebook or Google+.
Q: How will the book be available?
A: I will format it in PDF, MOBI, and EPUB, and then I’ll make those files available for us all to share. If you guys want, I could also make it a freeEPUB on Smashwords, and then distribute it to a few other retailers that accept free titles.

Q: When should I post my letter?
A: Anytime during the week of May 19th!

Q: What can I do in the meantime?
A: Kindly spread the word! You can do this by posting, utilizing your social media channels, rocking the button in your sidebar with a link to this post, etc. Also, I'd really appreciate it if you used the link-up below to sign up. It will help me compile everyone's posts the week of May 19th. I would hate to miss anyone!

So yay! Grab the button and help spread the word! This will be so fantastic!!

You don’t win the heart of an immortal assassin without making a few enemies along the way.

Kristia Tostenson prefers Earl Grey to Grey Goose and book clubs to nightclubs, but when she transfers from her one-stoplight town to Cardiff University in Wales she falls in love with Ull Myhr.  Her new boyfriend isn’t exactly what she was expecting.  He’s an honest to goodness Norse God - an immortal assassin fated to die at Ragnarok, the battle destined to destroy Asgard and Earth.  Kristia’s crazy visions are the only thing that can save their realms.  Her orderly life just got very messy.

Inga Andersson is the envy of every girl in Asgard. On the surface she has it all -- great friends, a job as Odin’s personal fight choreographer, and a happy ever after with her realm’s hottest assassin. But when evil invades Asgard, her perfect world comes crashing down. Someone is planning to kill off the gods, and Inga’s best friend Ull is first on their list. With the Norse apocalypse a nanosecond away, Inga has to decide how she’ll spend her final moments of freedom. Because from the moment this battle begins, Inga’s happily ever after will be nothing more than a memory.

Some things are worth fighting for.

Another New Life

Greetings, everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by here. Today I'm featuring fellow New Adult author, Sydney Aaliyah Michelle's cover reveal for her debut novel, Another New Life:

Cover Design by: (C) Arijana Karčić, Cover It! Designs

Isn't it purty? I love it. I've had the pleasure of reading this story too, and it's a raw, emotional tale of overcoming regrets and accepting new possibilities. Sydney and I did a beta exchange last year and I'm really glad we did. She was a huge help with feedback on Butterman (Time) Travel, Inc., and Another New Life was one of those painless reads that kept me turning pages.

Here's the blurb:

Miranda Preston is a walking contradiction. Beautiful on the outside, but, insecure, haunted and damaged on the inside. Despite these contradictions, she’s ready to start Another New Life.
When her talent wins her a piano scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, Miranda arrives on campus determined to experience everything college has to offer and to keep her secrets in the past where they belong.
An easy task, until the first guy who catches her eye happens to be someone, she’s known all her life.
Eight years have passed since the last time Miranda and Troy saw each other. He reminds her of the best and worst times of her life, but she can’t think about one without dwelling on the other. As they grow closer, every day their attraction reminds them they are no longer kids.
The epic romantic love story that is Miranda and Troy seems to be destined for a happy ending, but Miranda knows it's only a matter of time before her secret is discovered. A secret that will not only destroy their relationship, it will destroy Troy, too.

Can Miranda focus on her future with Troy while preventing her past from tearing them apart all over again?

And there's a GIVEAWAY!

I've had the treat of critiquing pitches some from fabulous writers I've just become acquainted with, and I'm super excited to see what happens on this contest.

That means the Write It Right Review was skipped over due to time constraints, but will be opening up again soon, so stay tuned.

And thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for featuring me on his blog Monday on G Day. So great to meet some new bloggers because of it. Welcome to all of you!

I'm still toiling away on the Butterman sequel and mother's memoir, so it's back to the writing cave for me.

Tell me what you're up to! Excited about any books coming out? Or movies? I hope to see Noah this weekend. Been over to see Sydney yet? Entering the agent contest on SC's blog? Let's hear it ...
